An IBC tote is the fastest way to move and store bulk liquid. Each caged IBC tote tank holds 275 or 330 gallons in a high-density polyethylene bottle inside a galvanized steel cage on a pallet base – one 275 gallon tote replaces five 55-gallon drums, a 330 replaces six, and a forklift or pallet jack moves the whole thing in one lift. Every tote ships with a 6″ threaded lid, a 2″ ball valve with male quick-disconnect coupler, and UN/DOT certification for packing group II and III liquids. Choose a reconditioned IBC tote for non-potable work, or a rebottled food grade IBC tote with a brand-new bottle for drinking water and food use.

Reconditioned IBC totes have seen prior service. The entire container is cleaned, inspected and certified to UN/DOT 31HA1/Y requirements, which approves it for hazardous and non-hazardous packing group II and III materials. They are the economical choice for anything that is not going to be consumed – and most IBCs in service fall into that category.
Rebottled IBC totes have every piece of previously used plastic removed and replaced with a newly manufactured bottle, set into a refurbished steel cage. They are fabricated and certified for food-grade and potable water applications and carry the same UN/DOT rating for shipping compatible liquids.

Water storage: potable, non-potable and rainwater
Water is what most IBC totes end up holding. For drinking water, emergency water storage, or anything people or animals will consume, use a rebottled tote – the bottle is new and rated for potable water. For rainwater harvesting, irrigation, livestock wash-down, dust control, and construction water, a reconditioned tote does the same job for less. Both are UV-stabilized, and the translucent bottle lets you read the level from across the yard.

The pallet base has four-way forklift channels, so a standard forklift or pallet jack moves a full tote from any side. Totes stack up to 3 high to save floor space. What is an IBC tote?
IBC stands for intermediate bulk container. A caged IBC tote is a large plastic bottle – typically 275 or 330 gallons – held inside a galvanized steel cage on a pallet base, with a lid on top and a valve at the bottom. It sits between drums and fixed tanks: big enough to replace five or six drums, small enough to move with a forklift and ship LTL.
How many liters is a 275 gallon IBC tote?
About 1,040 liters – it is the size usually sold as a 1,000 liter tote. The 330 gallon tote holds about 1,250 liters. Both share the same 48 × 40 inch footprint; the 330 is seven inches taller.
Can I use an IBC tote for drinking water?
Only a rebottled tote. Its bottle is brand new, FDA compliant and NSF 61 rated for potable water. A reconditioned tote has a cleaned and certified bottle that previously held another product, so it is approved for non-potable use only.
What is the difference between a reconditioned and a rebottled IBC tote?
A reconditioned IBC keeps its original bottle, which is cleaned, inspected and re-certified to UN/DOT 31HA1/Y. A rebottled IBC gets a 100% new bottle inside a refurbished cage. Reconditioned is the economical choice for non-potable liquids; rebottled is the choice for food, beverage, pharmaceutical and drinking-water use.
Are these new or used IBC totes?
Reconditioned totes are previously used containers that have been cleaned, inspected and certified for reuse. Rebottled totes have a new bottle in a refurbished cage. In both cases the cage and pallet base are refurbished, which is why they cost less than a fully new IBC while carrying the same UN/DOT rating.
How much does an empty IBC tote weigh?
A 275 gallon tote weighs about 135 lb empty; a 330 gallon tote about 155 lb. Full of water, add roughly 8.3 lb per gallon – about 2,300 lb for a 275 and 2,750 lb for a 330.
How are IBC totes shipped?
By LTL freight, on their own pallet base, at freight class 150. Freight is calculated at checkout for your ZIP code and totes ship from stock. Truckload quantities are quoted separately – contact us with the count and destination.
Can IBC totes be stacked?
Yes. The steel cage carries the load, and these totes stack up to 3 high. Keep stacked totes on a level floor and check the stacking rating on the UN plate for your fill weight.
