Pallet Rack Wire Decking – Product Overview
Pallet rack wire decking (also called wire mesh decking or wire decks) provides secure, open-grid shelving for pallet rack systems. It is the standard wire decking for pallet racks in warehouses and distribution centers, with heavy duty 4-channel decks for the toughest loads. Each deck drops into place in seconds to create a stable surface for pallets, cartons, bins and irregular loads. We stock 29 sizes from 24 to 60 inches deep and 46 to 58 inches wide, in Step Channel and Flared (Universal) styles, rated from 2,000 to 3,500 lb per deck, and every deck ships from stock from distribution centers across the USA.

Step Channel decks that sit flush in step beams for a heavy-duty, integrated fit.

Waterfall design:
1.5 in. front/rear waterfall edge wraps over the beam flange, helping lock the deck in place with no fasteners.
Heavy-duty construction:
Welded steel wire (typically 6-gauge) in a 2.5 in. × 4 in. grid, supported by cold-formed steel channels (usually 14- or 16-gauge).
Standard decks have 3 support channels; larger or higher-capacity decks use 4 channels for extra strength.

Deck type:
Select Step Channel for racks with step beams (common 1.5 to 1.625 in. ledge on roll-formed beams), or choose Flared (Universal) for structural channel beams or box beams (no step ledge).
Beam length (left to right):
Determine your beam length and use the guide below to select deck widths. Most levels use two decks (some longer beams use three).
Depth (front to back):
Match deck depth to your rack frame depth (for example, 36, 42, 44, 48, 60 in.).

Frequently asked questions
How much weight can wire decking hold?
Our standard-duty 3-channel decks are rated 2,000 to 2,700 lb per deck and heavy-duty 4-channel decks 2,500 to 3,500 lb per deck, as a uniformly distributed load. The rating applies to each deck, not the whole level – and the beams and frames of your rack have their own capacity, which the decking does not change. Use the capacity column in the size tables above to pick the right deck for your load.
Does wire decking increase pallet rack capacity?
No. Wire decking supports the load between the beams and stops items from falling through; it does not add to the rack's rated capacity, which is set by the beams and upright frames. Each deck carries its own per-deck rating, so stay under both the deck rating and the beam rating.
Step channel or flared (universal) wire decking – which do I need?
Look at your beam. Roll-formed step beams have a 1.5 to 1.625 in. ledge on the inside edge – choose Step Channel, which drops into the step for a flush, integrated fit. Structural channel beams and box beams have no step – choose Flared (Universal), whose flared channel ends rest on top of the beam. Flared decks also fit standard step beams if you need one style across mixed racking.
How do I measure for wire decking?
Deck depth matches your upright frame depth, measured front to back (36, 42, 44 and 48 in. are the most common). Deck width is set by beam length: most levels use two decks, so a 92 in. beam takes two 46 in. decks and a 96 in. beam takes two 46 in. decks; a 144 in. beam takes three 46 in. decks. Is wire decking better than plywood or solid decking for fire sprinklers?
Open wire mesh lets water from overhead sprinklers pass through to the levels below, which is why fire codes and insurers generally favor open decking over solid surfaces in racked storage. Solid decking such as plywood can create a shelf that blocks sprinkler coverage, and in buildings with ESFR sprinklers open wire decking is the type designers generally specify. Requirements vary by occupancy and jurisdiction, so confirm with your fire marshal or insurer before specifying.
Is galvanized wire decking available?
Yes. Our stock decks have a powder-coat finish that resists corrosion in normal warehouse use; galvanized steel decking is available on request for wash-down, cold storage or outdoor environments. Contact us with the sizes and quantity.
