Frequently Asked Questions
How many kegs fit on this pallet?
It depends on your keg format – half barrel, slim quarter and sixth barrel all have different diameters, and the arrangement that works for one is wrong for another. The 44 by 30 footprint is the size the keg trade works to, but rather than quote a number that may not match your containers, send us your keg format and we will confirm the arrangement and the loaded weight against the rating before you order.
Why use plastic for keg handling instead of wood?
Because kegs live in wet places. Wood in a cellar or wash bay absorbs moisture, swells, warps and eventually rots, and the nail holes and grain cracks are exactly where bacteria and mould take hold – which is a real problem in a brewery. Plastic absorbs nothing, washes down completely, sanitises properly and does not splinter. It also will not shed a nail into a keg line.
Is 30,000 lb static overkill for kegs?
Not if you stack them. A full half-barrel keg is around 160 lb, so a loaded pallet can be well over half a ton, and stacked several high in a cold store the bottom pallet carries all of it. The high static rating is what makes deep stacking safe, which is how most keg storage actually works.
Can a keg pallet go in pallet racking?
No. This model carries no rack rating – the 30,000 lb figure is for a pallet sitting on a solid floor. Keg storage is usually block stacked or on drive-in racking where the load rests on rails. If your setup spans beams, use a rack-rated pallet or fit decking.
Will it survive a keg washer or steam clean?
Recycled polyethylene handles routine wash-down, caustic cleaning and cold storage without degrading. It is not a high-temperature material though, so if you are putting pallets through a steam tunnel or anything sustained above roughly 150°F, tell us the temperature and we will confirm suitability first.
