48x40 Rackable Plastic Pallet – Rack Rated, Steel Reinforced

This is the one that goes in the beams. Most plastic pallets carry a big static number and no rack rating at all, which makes them fine on a floor and unsafe in a rack. This one is rated for racking from the base configuration up, and steel rods moulded into the runners take that rating from 1,000 lb to 3,000 lb as you add them. 5,000 lb dynamic, 25,000 lb static, 54 lb of structural pallet, molded in the USA from 100% recycled plastic.

Key Features:

  • Rack rated – 1,000 lb unreinforced, up to 3,000 lb with five steel rods
  • 5,000 lb dynamic capacity – full forklift and jack duty
  • 25,000 lb static capacity
  • Six full-length runners – four-way entry, pallet jack from either end
  • Steel rod reinforcement options – specify the rack rating you need
  • 20 top deck grommets and 9 runner grommets – grip for the load and the wrap
  • 54 lb – built for years of closed-loop service, not one trip
  • ISPM-15 exempt – no heat treatment or fumigation for export
  • 100% recycled plastic, made in the USA
  • Will not splinter, absorb moisture, or shed nails into product

Frequently Asked Questions

How much weight can this pallet hold in a rack?

Between 1,000 lb and 3,000 lb depending on reinforcement. The base pallet with no rods is rated 1,000 lb across beams; adding steel rods to the runners raises it, and the five-rod heavy duty configuration reaches 3,000 lb. Rack rating is a completely separate figure from the 25,000 lb static capacity, which only applies on a solid floor. If you tell us your beam span and the actual weight of a loaded pallet, we will confirm which configuration you need before you order.

What is the difference between long rods and short rods?

Which way they run. Long rods run the 48-inch length of the pallet, short rods run across the 40-inch width. Which one helps depends on how your rack is set up: the rods want to run in the same direction as the unsupported span, so they are bridging the gap between the beams. In a standard rack with the 40-inch edge resting on the beams, short rods are doing the work. Tell us your rack orientation and we will spec it.

What does standard duty versus heavy duty mean?

The gauge of the steel rod. Heavy duty uses a thicker rod, so for the same number of rods it carries more in the beam and costs a few dollars more. If you are near the limit of a configuration, take the heavy duty version rather than adding rods – it is usually the cheaper way to get the rating.

Can I use this pallet without any rods?

Yes. The no-rod configuration is a complete pallet rated 5,000 lb dynamic and 25,000 lb static, with a 1,000 lb rack rating. Rods only matter if you are racking loads heavier than 1,000 lb. For floor stacking, block stacking, or transit, the base pallet is all you need and it is the cheapest in the range.

How does this compare to a wood pallet for racking?

A wood pallet has no published rack rating at all – performance depends on the boards, the nails, and how many trips it has taken. This one has a number you can design around, and it holds that number for years because plastic does not dry out, split, or lose nails. Wood is cheaper on day one. Over a decade of closed-loop use plastic wins on cost per trip and on the damage it does not do to your product.

Is it compatible with automated handling?

Yes, and that is one of the main reasons operations switch. Injection molded pallets come out the same dimensions every time, so conveyors, stretch wrappers, and AS/RS equipment do not jam on an out-of-spec pallet. Wood varies enough between pallets to cause exactly that problem.
