A full bottom deck spreads the load across the whole footprint instead of concentrating it on five or six narrow runners, which is what you want when pallets are stacked on each other or riding a conveyor. 5,000 lb dynamic, 30,000 lb static, 61 lb, with 16 grommets on each face. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the advantage of a double-face pallet?
The bottom deck spreads the load. A single-face pallet rests on five or six narrow runners, so all the weight above concentrates into those strips – which digs into whatever is underneath. That is fine on a concrete floor and a problem when the pallet is sitting on another loaded pallet, on a conveyor, or on a coated or epoxy floor. A full bottom deck spreads that same load across the whole 48 by 40 footprint. It also gives the pallet a flat, stable base on a roller conveyor instead of runners that can drop between rollers.
Can I use either side as the top?
Both faces are full decks with 16 grommets each, so the pallet is stable either way up and it is far more forgiving if it gets flipped in handling. The top deck is the one designed to carry the load, so use it as intended for rated capacity.
The dual deck holds 30,000 lb static – is it rack rated?
No. The 30,000 lb static rating applies on a solid floor, not across beams. Racking loads a pallet in bending across an unsupported span, which is a different test entirely, and this model does not carry a published rack rating in any configuration. For beam storage buy our rack-rated 48x40 6-runner, or put wire mesh decking in the bay to carry the load instead.
How many rods should I choose?
Rods stiffen the pallet and reduce deflection under heavy or uneven loads. The no-rod version handles most block stacking. Move up to 6, 8 or 10 rods if you are loading near the 5,000 lb dynamic rating, running long unsupported spans on conveyor, or carrying a load that concentrates weight in the middle. Tell us the load and the handling and we will spec it.
Why is it heavier than the other 48x40 pallets?
There is simply more plastic in it – a second full deck instead of open space between runners. At 61 lb it is the heaviest 48x40 we carry. That weight is the point: it is what gives you the load spreading and the 30,000 lb static rating. If you do not need either, a runner-base pallet does the same job for less money and less weight.
