Frequently Asked Questions
Why is 56x44 a standard in the beverage industry?
Case dimensions. Beverage cases and glass containers palletize into layer patterns that do not fit a 48x40 without either overhang or wasted deck, and at the volumes bottlers run, a few wasted inches per pallet is a lot of trailer space over a year. 56x44 is the footprint those layer patterns were built around, which is why bottling lines, breweries and glass plants standardised on it.
What do the 28 grommets do?
They stop the load sliding. Beverage cases have smooth cardboard or plastic bottoms and a pallet deck is smooth plastic, so on a forklift that is braking or turning the bottom layer can slip – and with glass, a slipped layer is broken product. The grommets raise the friction under the load. They also give stretch wrap something to grip at the base. The plain deck is the same price, so take the grommets unless you specifically want a smooth surface for sanitation.
Why does the low 4.5-inch profile matter?
Because you are shipping against a fixed ceiling. Every inch of pallet is an inch of load height you cannot use. At 4.5 inches this is roughly 1.5 inches lower than a typical 6-inch pallet, which across a tall beverage load can be the difference between fitting another layer and leaving it behind.
Is the 56x44 beverage pallet rack rated?
No. The 15,000 lb static rating applies on a solid floor, not across beams, and this model has no published rack rating. Beverage operations mostly block stack or use drive-in racking with the load resting on rails rather than the pallet spanning beams. If your setup does span beams, use a rack-rated pallet or fit decking.
Will it work with automated bottling line equipment?
Yes, and consistency is the main reason to switch. Injection molded pallets come out identical every time, so palletisers, stretch wrappers and conveyors handle them predictably. Wood pallets vary between units and that variation is the common cause of line stoppages. Plastic also will not shed splinters or nails near open containers.
