Frequently Asked Questions
Why is 40x32 the standard half pallet size?
Because it halves a GMA pallet cleanly. Two 40x32 pallets side by side occupy essentially the same space as one 48x40, so they drop straight into existing racking, trailers and handling without redesigning anything around them. That compatibility is why retail supply chains standardised on it for display units.
Can these go straight onto a retail sales floor?
That is the main reason they exist. A floor-ready display arrives on the half pallet, gets wheeled or jacked into position, and the pallet stays as the base of the display – no restacking, no labour. Plastic is the better choice here because it has a clean moulded finish, will not splinter near customers, and does not shed nails on a shop floor.
How do two half pallets work in a standard rack bay?
Two side by side match the width of a single 48x40, so they fit an existing bay. Check the bearing on your beams before loading – each pallet needs proper support on both beams, and this is exactly the situation where a small pallet can drop through if the beam spacing does not suit it. Wire mesh decking removes the problem entirely and is worth fitting for mixed pallet sizes.
Is it as strong as a full-size pallet?
On the ratings, yes – 5,000 lb dynamic and 30,000 lb static match our largest 48x40 pallets, and the shorter span is why. What it will not do is carry a load bigger than its footprint. Anything overhanging a 40x32 deck is unsupported, and the ratings no longer apply.
What is the difference between standard and heavy duty rods?
Rod gauge. Heavy duty uses thicker steel, so it stiffens the pallet further under concentrated or uneven loads for a dollar more. If you are near the limit of a configuration, the heavier rod is usually the cheapest way to gain margin.
