Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I use a 37x37 instead of a standard 48x40?
Floor space and load size. A 37-inch square is about 30% less area than a 48x40, so you fit meaningfully more pallets in the same footprint – which matters when the building is full and expanding is not an option. It also stops you shipping air: if your load only occupies two thirds of a GMA pallet, you are paying to move an empty third every trip.
How is the rack rating higher than the 48x40?
Shorter span. Rack rating is about resisting bending across the gap between beams, and a 37-inch pallet bridges eleven inches less than a 48-inch one. Less span means less bending moment for the same load, so the same construction carries more. It is the same reason a short shelf holds more than a long one.
Will it work in standard 48x40 racking?
It will sit in the bay, but check how it lands on your beams before you commit. A 37-inch pallet in a bay set for 48x40 may not have adequate bearing on both beams depending on your beam spacing and orientation. Pallets that only catch one beam fall through, and that is a serious incident. Measure your beam spacing against the 37-inch dimension first, and fit decking if there is any doubt.
What is it typically used for?
Compact square footprints show up in chemical handling, dairy, and anywhere the product palletizes into a square rather than a rectangle. It is also common in operations that have simply run out of floor and want more pallet positions in the same building.
Do I need the rods?
Only if you are racking near the limit. The no-rod version is rated 1,200 lb across beams, which covers most compact loads. Four rods stiffen the pallet further for heavier or unevenly distributed loads. Weigh a loaded pallet before deciding – do not estimate.
