Frequently Asked Questions
What does mid duty actually mean?
It sits between the light nestable pallets and the full structural range. A nestable export pallet is 17 to 31 lb and rated 2,000 to 2,800 lb dynamic. A structural six-runner is 54 lb and rated 5,000 lb. This is 42 lb and rated 4,000 lb, which covers the large middle of warehouse work – loads that are too heavy for a shipping pallet and nowhere near the limit of a structural one.
Can the mid duty 3-runner be used in pallet racking?
No. This pallet carries no rack rating in either configuration. The 12,000 lb static figure applies to a pallet sitting on a solid floor, which is a different situation entirely from bridging two rack beams with nothing in between. For beam storage use our 48x40 rack-rated 6-runner, or fit wire mesh decking so the deck carries the load rather than the pallet.
Three runners or six – which do I need?
Three runners give a pallet jack a clean path and keep weight and cost down. Six runners spread the load further and carry more, which is what you need at higher capacities or in racking. If everything moves by jack and stays on the floor, three runners is the right pallet and the cheaper one.
What do the steel rods add?
Stiffness. Rods moulded into the runners reduce how much the pallet flexes under a heavy or unevenly distributed load, which helps on conveyors and in automated handling. They do not add a rack rating to this model – that requires a tested and published figure, which this pallet does not carry.
Is it worth switching from wood at this price?
It depends entirely on how many trips you get. A wood 48x40 costs a fraction of this and lasts three to five trips before stringers crack and nails work loose. A plastic pallet in closed-loop service runs for years at consistent dimensions with no nails going into product and no moisture absorption. If your pallets leave and never return, wood is cheaper. If they cycle, plastic wins on cost per trip and on the damage it prevents.
